Positive Behaviour

At Ellen Stirling Primary School, we want every child to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach helps children develop the everyday habits that make our school a positive place to be.

We hold high expectations and explicitly teach students how to meet them. Through clear routines, caring relationships and consistent encouragement, we help every child experience success.

Meet our Dream Team

Our four expectations guide behaviour in classrooms, playgrounds and throughout the school.

Rosie Respect: Using manners, greeting others politely, taking turns and allowing others to learn without distractions.

Scottie Safe: Following instructions, keeping hands and feet to ourselves, using equipment correctly and reporting unsafe situations.

Alfie Achieving: Setting learning goals, completing work to a high standard, using feedback and asking for help when things are hard.

Ringo Responsible: Being organised and ready to learn, looking after belongings, being honest and finding solutions to problems.

Teaching positive habits

Just as we teach reading and mathematics, we teach positive behaviour. Staff explain and model expectations, give children time to practise and provide specific feedback to reinforce success.

Our shared routines include greeting each other politely, responding to the teacher’s attention signal, moving calmly around the school and taking pride in our work. These routines help children know what to do and make the most of their learning time.

Supporting every child

Children learn at different rates, and some need additional teaching, practice or adjustments. We work with families to understand individual needs and provide support while maintaining high expectations.

When children make mistakes, we respond calmly, reteach expectations and help them make better choices.

Working together

Families can help by practising polite greetings, encouraging children to care for their belongings and noticing their effort and progress. Try asking, “How did you show one of our Dream Team expectations today?”

These resources explain some of the habits we practise at school:

If your child is finding something difficult, please speak with their classroom teacher. Working together helps us provide the encouragement and support they need to thrive.
