Enrolment Guidelines

Applying to enrol

We look forward to welcoming your family to Ellen Stirling Primary School. Our school caters for children from Kindergarten to Year 6, providing a safe, caring learning environment with high expectations for every child.

Starting at a new school is an important step. Our office team is happy to help you through the application process and answer any questions along the way.

1. Check your intake area and year level

Ellen Stirling Primary School is a local intake school. Please check our Intake Area page to see whether your home is within our boundaries. If you are unsure, contact the school office for assistance.

Children can start Kindergarten if they turn four by 30 June in the year they attend. Pre-primary begins the following year and is the first year of compulsory schooling. The Department of Education’s school-age calculator can help you identify the appropriate year level.

Kindergarten is a non-compulsory year of schooling so places are limited. Please contact the office about current availability and application timelines. Kindergarten places are offered according to the Department’s enrolment priorities.

2. Complete an application

Complete an Application for Enrolment for each child you wish to enrol. You can obtain a copy from the school office.

Submitting an application begins the process. We will assess your application and advise you of the outcome before completing the remaining enrolment arrangements.

3. Gather your supporting documents

Please provide the following with your application:

  • Evidence of your child’s identity and date of birth, such as a birth certificate.
  • Proof of your residential address, such as a current utility bill, lease agreement or rates notice.
  • Your child’s Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement, available through Medicare or myGov.
  • Relevant passport, citizenship or visa documents, where applicable.
  • Any current court or care orders relevant to your child’s care or living arrangements.

Kindergarten enrolment has specific immunisation requirements. Our office can explain what is needed and when to provide an updated statement.

If you cannot provide a document, please speak with us so we can understand your circumstances and help you with the next steps.

4. Submit your application

Return your completed application and supporting documents:

Our team will review the information and contact you if anything further is needed. Please let us know your preferred starting date, particularly if your child is transferring during the school year.

5. Meet with us and tour the school

As part of our enrolment process, we invite you and your child to meet with a member of our School Leadership Team and take a tour of the school. This is an opportunity for us to get to know your child, hear about their strengths and interests, and understand any needs or concerns you would like to share. It also gives you a chance to ask questions and become familiar with our school.

Please tell us about any learning, medical, disability or wellbeing needs so we can plan with you. Working together from the beginning helps us provide the support your child needs to settle in, feel a sense of belonging and make a positive start.

6. Complete your enrolment

We will advise you of your application outcome and guide you through any further enrolment forms. Our team will also confirm starting arrangements and direct you to information about uniforms, personal items and school routines.

Families joining Kindergarten can find preparation resources on our Starting Kindergarten page.
