Absences and Legal Responsibility
The Department of Education regulations require a written note, email, text or telephone call with an explanation for all absences from school for students Year K – 6.
These notes are filed and must be produced for the North Metro Education Regional Office (NMERO) Attendance Team on their visit. A telephone call is considered sufficient as long as a reasonable reason is provided.
Persistent absence or lateness without reasonable cause will be referred to the North Metro Education Regional Office (NMERO) Attendance Team. Many absences even with a reason will be referred. It is recommended that everyone aims for 95% attendance rate or more.
Please telephone 6497 4200 or email firstname.lastname@example.org or use Connect app or text 0438 980 461 to school as early as possible in the morning to advise why your child is absent. If the school does not receive notice of an absence we may text or telephone you to request a reason for absence.
Notification in writing, addressed to the Principal is also required when a parent:
- wishes to take students on vacation during term time
- wishes a child to be excluded from sport, physical education or any other program
The Principal is responsible for the welfare of the children in the school from the time they reach school in the morning until they leave in the afternoon. Therefore NO child can go home unattended before the designated closing time of the school unless the child has a written note from a parent and/or a Government Leave Pass from Administration.
If parents arrive to take their child home they are asked to sign their child out of the school in the Sign-Out Book located in the Administration Area. Children will not be permitted to go to the shops during school hours.
